The family of Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy Dennis Wallace, who was killed in the line of duty on November 13, 2016, announced the establishment of a charitable fund in his honor. The Deputy Dennis Wallace Kids Soccer Fund was established at Stanislaus Community Foundation to help raise charitable dollars to benefit local kids, specifically young children involved in local soccer associations.
Deputy Wallace and his wife Mercedes have more than 30 nieces and nephews who they helped care for, providing advice, mentoring, coaching and even trips to Disneyland. But it is Deputy Wallace’s extensive efforts to find positive pathways for struggling kids through sports – especially soccer – that changed the lives of many. Deputy Wallace joined the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department in 1997 and throughout his tenure in law enforcement, mentored and helped many children in the community through the D.A.R.E. program and through youth soccer.
The Deputy Dennis Wallace Kids Soccer Fund will provide, on an annual basis, grants to local soccer associations to purchase soccer kits, including uniforms, cleats, shin-guards and soccer balls, as well as provide soccer registration scholarships, allowing low-income kids to pursue the sport at no cost.
The Fund has been established at Stanislaus Community Foundation with a match challenge by Ambeck Mortgage, the longtime employer of Deputy Wallace’s wife Mercedes. Ambeck Mortage will match every dollar raised up to $50,000.
